Year 8 Music Recycled Rhythms - Environmentally Aware Individual

12th May 2023

Bob Marley once said, “One good thing about music is when it hits you, you feel no pain.” Good music can be found anywhere, sometimes in the most unexpected places. This term I tasked the Year 8 students to create music from non-musical items that they could find in the classroom, at home or recycled items. Some of the best genres such as Calypso emerged as a result of such experimentations.

The task required them to find different ways to produce various timbres from the items and play them in more than one way. They also had to come up with rhythmic patterns that sounded good together and structure their piece in a way that was pleasant. I am proud to say they did quite well. Here is a short snippet of their composition.
