Year 6 Secondary Science

10th February 2023

Year six students were excited to join the secondary science team in the laboratory to explore how we interact with Science by conducting an experiment. The aim of the experiment was to investigate the effect of temperature on ice. If ice is warmed enough, it can change to liquid water because heating a substance makes the kinetic energy to increase, hence molecules move faster and break the bonds between them. The students heated ice using a bunsen burner while recording the temperature degrees celsius using a thermometer. While at it, they constantly stirred the water to ensure an even distribution of heat in the beaker and took note of the temperature change every minute using a stopwatch. The general trend they discovered in their groups was that, as they continued to heat the ice, the thermometer readings also increased.
