Year 3 News

Learning in year 3 continues to be exciting and rewarding!

In Maths, the children have been exploring the concepts of multiplication and division in fun ways, using a range of manipulatives including hula hoops and bean bags to form groups; coloured chalk to tally on drawn caterpillars, Lego towers and egg trays to share out equally and now the students are figuring out how to divide the class loot fairly!

In English, the children learnt how to create story mountains and to plan for creative writing. The budding authors beamed with pride in front of their peers as they read aloud their own unique adventure stories which they wrote using their chosen Mr Men and Little Miss characters. From Mr Blonde lost in Jurassic Park, Little Miss Whoops travelling to Stockholm and Mr Strong’s broken igloo, all the adventure stories were abounded with dilemmas that the children resolved in the end using their impressive imaginations!

In history, Year 3 have travelled to ancient Rome to learn about the Roman Empire. The children especially enjoyed researching about the Roman army and what the soldiers wore. They had the opportunity to apply this learning in Art when they made their own helmets and shields which they thoroughly enjoyed and posed as brave Roman soldiers for our class photo.

In science, as part of our topic on ‘Animals including Humans’, we have explored nutrition through balanced diets using the different food groups; discussed the diets of different animals and are now learning about skeletons and movement. The children had the opportunity to put this learning into context when they visited Haller Park earlier this week where they learnt more about the range of animal eating habits and identified how to sort skeletons into groups.

Here is a glimpse of life in Year 3, in pictures. Enjoy!
