We have had an exciting and productive time in Year 2 over the past few weeks! Our class has been buzzing with enthusiasm as we delved into fascinating learning activities. Here’s a glimpse of what we’ve been up to:
Science: Recycling and Vertical Projects
Our budding scientists had a fantastic time learning about recycling. They explored the importance of reducing waste and how different materials can be recycled. The highlight of our science lessons was a collaborative vertical project with the Year 5 students. Together, they conducted an experiment to find out which materials are soluble and which are insoluble. This hands-on activity not only enhanced their understanding of materials but also fostered teamwork and cooperation between the year groups.Additionally, we discussed how each of us can make a difference by reducing waste and reusing items whenever possible.
Mathematics: Fun with Fractions
In maths, we explored the world of fractions. The children were introduced to the concept of dividing whole items into equal parts and expressing those parts as fractions. Through various engaging activities, they learned to identify, compare, and create fractions.
We used visual aids like fraction circles and bars to help the children grasp the concept visually. One of the favorite activities was our "Fraction Pizza Party," where students created their own paper pizzas and divided them into slices, practicing how to write and understand fractions. This hands-on approach made learning fractions both fun and tasty!
We are incredibly proud of the progress and enthusiasm our Year 2 students have shown this term. Their passion for learning is truly inspiring, and we look forward to continuing this journey together.
