Year 2 News

2nd February 2024

What a fantastic start to the New Year! In Year 2, I've observed increased maturity among the children and a tremendous enthusiasm for learning.

In our English lessons, we've delved into newspaper reports, and all the children recounted their Christmas holidays in the third person. This provided a glimpse of their activities and the amount of fun they had. Currently, we're exploring fantasy stories, and it's always amazing to witness their imaginations that extend beyond this world.

In Maths, we kicked off with learning about money. Following a progression from the known to the unknown, we began by identifying the Kenyan currency before delving deeper into UK money. We're eagerly looking forward to our upcoming shopping trip! Our small class shop has been a valuable learning experience, where we're practicing finding the total amount and calculating change. The climax will be our visit to Carrefour supermarket for shopping.

In Science, our exploration of living things and their habitats has been captivating. We've not only learned about habitats but also delved into the concept of the food chain. Additionally, in History, we are immersed in learning about Mombasa a century ago. This journey has allowed us to understand the people of Mombasa, their culture, and local cuisines. Our highlight will be making a Swahili dish to conclude this fascinating topic.
