Year 1 Science - Seasons of the year

In Year 1 this term, we have been studying the four seasons of the year. After establishing the order of the months, children then looked at how temperature varies between each month. To consolidate their understanding and to make comparisons clear, children created column graphs using materials found in our classroom which allowed them to easily identify the four seasons.
Later in the week, we looked at the variation in day length for each season and created colourful bar charts. Children were very surprised to learn that in the UK during winter you can leave school in the dark, but in summer go to bed during daylight!
