Coding with Blockly Games

12th May 2023

This week, Year 1 were introduced to the world of computer programming. We learnt that programs can be used to solve problems. We looked at how a program is made up of a set of instructions that, when followed, will complete a task. Year 1 used a fantastic site called Blockly Games. Here they made great use of their mouse skills by dragging and dropping blocks of code and snapping them together in the correct order. Once complete, the children could “run” the program and watch as it works through the instruction step-by-step, allowing them to spot and correct any mistakes they may have made. These lessons are fun and challenging and I look forward to seeing how they progress in the coming weeks.
