World Languages Committee at EAMUN

15th March 2025

The World Languages Committee (WLC) is involved in the EAMUN debates, which take place in Nairobi each year. The WLC chooses important world topics, sends them to schools taking part in EAMUN early in advance, so that delegates can write resolutions before the actual event. This year, the committee used Swahili, French, and Gujarati for discussions, giving students a special chance to practice speaking in different languages. Through these debates, students improve their language skills and gain a better understanding of global issues and diplomacy. By encouraging young people to take part in international discussions, the WLC helps their voices be heard in solving world problems.

Braeburn Mombasa International School students joined the Swahili committee as observers, taking notes during the debates. However, when we returned to school, we introduced debates in lessons, discussing topics like "Mitandao ya kijamii imeleta madhara zaidi kuliko manufaa."and “Sare za shule huwasaidia wanafunzi kuwa na nidhamu na usawa.” With more speaking practice, Y9 students are becoming more confident.
