Students were split into their Houses to watch a programme sharing the inspiring story of a young woman from Nairobi who created a company that makes bricks out of plastic waste. Resilience and determination were evident in her testimony and we were all impressed by her drive and the business she created to do her part in trying to help protect the environment.
Following this, students worked in groups to come up with a product that they could create using recycled material. They presented their ideas to the other Houses and some groups were able to link their Business knowledge to the project.
House Captains then had to organise their Houses to win a Scavenger Hunt. Students were creative and worked well as a team. Kifaru came first, Chui second and Simba third. Well done to all for taking part.
A hush descended on the Dining Hall for the last activity of World Environment Day. Students listened attentively to the Roka Bags team explaining how they reuse advertisement banners to make sturdy bags, pouches and pencil cases. They then tried their hand at sewing with a thread and needle and an impressive focus and determination was shown. Some groups were very close to finishing their pouch by the end of the session and the Roka Bags team was really impressed with the students’ work and focus. Well done everyone!
