Last Wednesday, Ms Barasa and I had the pleasure of accompanying ten of our Year three and four students to The Banda schools’ U9 IAPS Rugby and Netball festivals. The children were an absolute delight to travel with, representing the school very well and showing skill, determination and diligence on the field. The festival format means that no scores are recorded, but the children have a great time pushing themselves against some very strong opposition.
The teams were captained by Daisy Wells (netball) and Afonso Cipriano (rugby). The netball team showed great determination, working well together, showcasing their skills and being nominated for MVP on several occasions. The rugby team also showed grit and determination, tackling and defending with vigour. The boys combined well with the extras and ran very well, carrying the ball and again having several MVP nominations.
Well done to Dev, Afonso,Otto, Ishmeer and Etienne on the rugby team and Umalisa, Zahra, Nyadeng and Sophia on the Netball team - we are so proud of you all!
The event was excellent with both of the teams performing well, causing several upsets and scoring points. They worked well with students from other schools, socialising and making new friendships with team mates. We had many positive comments from teachers and parents from other schools about the performances and attitude shown by our children. We would like to take more with us next year!
