Swimming News

31st March 2023

This term has been very busy and eventful for us in the swimming department.

On Wednesday 1st February 2023 we held our Early Years swim show and share. It was great to see how our little ones showed courage and confidence while showcasing the various skills that they have learnt during their swimming lessons.

On Monday 6th March, we held our annual Primary inter-house swimming gala. On the day, participants competed with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship, making an enjoyable and successful event for all involved.

Putting in some stand out performances were: Matis, Aiden, Vyan, Luca, Freja, Fatema, Ariana, Serene and Sienna and all who swam in more than five events just to represent their various houses. We are proud of all their efforts; they made that day a success.

The results were out at the end of the event with Chui taking first position with 570 points, followed by Kifaru with 497 points and in third position was Simba with 4574 points.

On Friday 24th March, we had our Secondary Inter-house swimming gala. I was pleased to see some of our students doing multiple events and going to an extent of replacing the ones who were not swimming due to sickness or other reasons. Special mention goes to Nicole, Denis, Ernest, Fidel, Daniel, Roy, Mikaela, Lilly-May, Ana, Ciara, Renisa, Fidel W and Kevin for their outstanding performances.

I would like to extend our thanks to the school teaching staff who provided assistance in time keeping, recording results and other duties.

In other news our swimming team made us proud in the CASA (Coast Amateur Swimming Association). Our swimmers participated well in both the Junior and the 10 years and over swimming competitions while scooping medals in various events.

Our biggest event in swimming this term was the IAPS swimming gala held in Nairobi. The group was split into 3 groups; Under 9 competing at Brookhouse, Under 11 at The Banda and Under 13 at Kenton. Having the smallest team in the IAPS meet did not demoralise us, instead it gave us the morale to push through and that is what our swimmers did exactly. The team performed really well with the 11 and under team winning overall team score.

I would like to recognise some of the outstanding individual performances of all our swimmers that is: Alvin, Dev, Sean, Afonso, Zainab, Zahra, Nyandeng, Fatema, Nicole, Malak, Ariana, Siena, Denis, Luca, Matis, Aiden, Ciara and James.

Our medalists for this event were:

Sean M – Gold medal in 25 metres backstroke with a time of 21.69

Siena - Bronze medal in 50 metres breaststroke with a time of 49.14

Ariana – Bronze medal in 50 metres butterfly with a time of 42.94

Matis - Gold medal in 50 metres breaststroke with a time of 47.85

Aiden – Gold medal in 50 metres freestyle with a time of 34.26

Luca - Silver medal in 100 metres Individual Medley with a time of 1:33.25

The 11 and under boy’s relay team was first position in both medley and freestyle relay.

Congratulations team BMIS, I know you put up a lot of hard work and determination and that is why you deserve the spotlight.

Happy Easter holiday and always remember that “if you want to be the best, you have to do things that others aren’t willing to do”.

Ms Maron
