Secondary students will work collaboratively to solve problems on Pi Day

10th March 2023

Next week on Tuesday 14th March the secondary students will be celebrating all things mathematical. The whole school will take two lessons to try to gain appreciation of the richness of the subject and the wide range of things covered. We will do activities such as problem solving, understanding shapes and of course we will be doing some calculations too.

Pi day was founded in 1988 by physicist Larry Shaw, and incidentally as well as forming the numbers 3.14 (the first three digits of the irrational number π) is also Albert Einstein's birthday.

Here is a puzzle for you to try at home.
Instructions: The objective is to move around the board in the direction of each arrow that you land on until you reach the centre target square. Do this with as few moves as possible.
Start on the green arrow and move in the direction it points for as many spaces as you wish. You may only move in a straight line in the direction of the arrow of the square you started moving from each turn.
