Secondary Showcase

2nd February 2024

On Wednesday 31st January, secondary school students welcomed their parents, visitors and Year 5 and 6 students for a showcase afternoon.

The Secondary Band kicked off the proceedings at 2pm. On stage were Key Stage 3 musicians part of the school band and singers who have been invited to showcase their talent at The Banda Vocal Festival after half-term. We also had a performance by our very own DJ, Maya, who produced a piece of music live.

The prefects then led the group to the Science laboratories where some of the Y7 and Y10 students showed us how to test food and use Ph indicators, amongst other experiments. We then moved to the Mathematics classroom and observed Taseen, Anwar and Charity solve several problems before having a go at some ourselves. In the PE room, IGCSE students explained the fitness tests they have been studying in their theory lessons and asked all of us to join in the three different tests they had prepared. Aden, Ernest and Fidel did a great job at leading the activities and getting everyone involved.

Mr Took had prepared a Computer Science game that tested some mathematical skills demonstrating the importance of numbers in programming. Prefects ushered us in the Art room next, where Miss Mango’oli had prepared an ambitious activity with the students who were all keen to explain the creative process behind the task at hand and help the parents. In the English room, Haiqa and Ana led word puzzles and games that are used in lessons to expand students’ vocabulary and develop thinking and retrieval skills. Kiswahili and French also showed the group some games that can be played to learn and practise vocabulary, grammar concepts, conjugations and sayings. We played Scrabble on a giant board in French and took part in an interactive quiz on sayings in Kiswahili. The activities ended with a Humanities quiz that our quiz master, Mr Daniels, created with Miss Oira and Mr Oloo.

There was excitement in the air as we went from one subject to the next and everyone took part in the activities. The students displayed great leadership and public speaking skills, showing their confidence in sharing what they learn and leading the activities parents, visitors and students were invited to take part in.

Thank you to all the students in Key Stage 3 and Year 10 who prepared the learning environments and tasks and who actively participated. Thank you to all the teachers for their dedication and hardwork. Thank you to the parents who attended for taking time in your busy schedules and for supporting our students and giving them the opportunity to showcase a part of their learning and achievements.
