Year 10 PSHCE

In Year 10, we have been learning about mental health and emotional well-being. In this topic, we looked at the changes that may cause challenges and how to deal with them. We explored negative thinking and how it affects our decision-making and how we can reframe our thinking. After that, we discussed a variety of mental health issues and how they can be addressed. We explored how change, grief, and loss can affect our mental health. Lastly, we looked at strategies that we can apply to promote emotional well-being. These lessons were very interactive and I must say, I was quite impressed by the maturity and wisdom that these students possess. In the following slides, we present a few scenarios and advice given by the Year 10 students.

Y11 PSHCE - Independence

This half term the Y11 PSHCE topic was Independence and we focused on its literal meaning, types and the importance of being an Independent learner.

We had vibrant discussions about what Independence means, and the initial reaction when asked what the term means to them, as expected, was very interesting . They associated Independence with having a lot of freedom which they were all looking forward to with expectation, excitement and a little apprehension / fear of the unknown.

They learnt not just about Independence but also their role as Independent learners whereby they acquire knowledge by their own efforts. Being independent means that they must develop their ability for enquiry and critical evaluation.

After a lot of discussions and debate they learnt about independence as not just a gateway to freedom but as a great way to learn about self - efficacy which can play a role in how you feel about yourself, but whether you successfully achieve your goals in life.

Tips On Independence:

  1. Keep a note of five different things you're grateful for.
  2. Deal with problems as they arise (don't let things build up).
  3. Approach issues in a proactive way, being open and unafraid of conflict.
  4. Let go of blame, grudges, and anything that might keep you from being open and focused on enjoying the present.
