During an absolutely fantastic term of rugby and netball we have braved the elements and slid through the mud and puddles. All years have embraced and learned new skills and refined old ones, particularly on the rugby field where the girls have had a really good time learning very new skills! It has been a pleasure to teach both rugby and netball this term, to a very enthusiastic group of students! We look forward to next term and the return of athletics, football and cricket.
We have had some fun on the road, with mixed netball, and a great experience for all in a friendly at Kivukoni. We are very much looking forward to many more opportunities in the coming term. We would also like to congratulate Jake, Luca and Matis for their qualification in the KSF nationals, swimming very well in the CASA events to qualify. We also would like to congratulate Ana and Arnav who both managed a gold medal at the Nova pioneer taekwondo event.
As this term ends I would like to thank everyone in our community for their work, help and support for the year. We are very much looking forward to the new term and whatever it holds.
I am sure that you would all like to join me to send out a huge thank you to Ms Barasa for all of her hard work and input both in the netball field and on the rugby pitches. We hope to see you again soon!
On a glorious afternoon, following the excitement and skills shown at the Braeburn’s Got Talent show, the high school set to the field to play touch rugby. They have been very busy honing their skills this term, we have had a good splash of rain so we have been able to learn how to tackle and play the contact game, which the students really engaged with. For the inter house event we played with mixed teams, in a seven a-side touch rugby format.
The games started with Chui and Kifaru. The game was very quick, and the Kifaru students began on the front foot, attacking through Fidel and Chantal. The first score, however, came from Chui as Daniel pounced upon a loose pass and ran into the right corner, narrowly avoiding the charging defenders. This was the start of a special few moments and Chui extended their lead, through Aiden’s direct running and Daniel’s pace. Chantal ran in a superb try, and Kifaru rallied but a quick double from the in-form Daniel completed the scoring.
The second game saw Simba come up against Chui. Having just played a hard game Chui were very much up to speed and started quickly, racing ahead with trys from Aiden and Fahad. Simba managed to get one back, with Ciara running in the pick of the day's tries, cutting back and forth through the Chui defence and grounding the ball with some style. This became the game of the day as Simba fought back, Kingdavid and Ciara helping them take themselves within a score of Chui after Jake and Abhinav had stretched the Chui lead. Lilly then scored an equalising try for Simba before Chui pushed very close to a winner with seconds left. The game ended in a draw, with both teams breathless at the end.
So the tournament was decided in the final game, Kifaru took an early lead with Hendrika punishing a tired Simba defence. Rehan then equalised and the game was in deadlock at the half. As the teams came out Chui roared with support as Kifaru took the game to Simba with Fidel scoring. Ernest then scored twice to take Simba into the lead only for Imani to equalise. This game was again a draw, meaning that Chui managed to take the title for this term.
Well done Chui!
Mr Moyse
