It was a busy start to term 3 with the Year 9 class completing their Cambridge Checkpoint Examinations at the start of the term on their second day back. They were very organised and the examinations went smoothly. For many of them this will be the first external examination they will have taken and it is a good introduction to externally marked examinations ahead of their IGCSEs. It is also very validating for students to see how they are achieving in their level of Mathematics relative to other students of their age around the world. We are all very pleased with how maturely they approached the whole experience and their enthusiastic start to the IGCSE topics they are now starting to look at.
Of course, term 3 is a very important examination term overall. The Year 11 IGCSE students are also sitting their examinations as well as the Year 12 students who are sitting for their AS Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
Why we follow the Cambridge Lower Secondary Course in Years 7-9 and take the associated Progress Tests
Later on in the term, the remaining Key Stage 3 students will also sit their Cambridge Lower Secondary Progress Tests. Following this curriculum ensures students have all the required pre-requisite knowledge they need to start their Cambridge IGCSE course. Additionally, it ensures that they are developing their problem-solving abilities and completing tests that are moderated at an international standard to be in line with the expected challenge level. Not only are the Cambridge Progress Tests moderated each year across a range of schools worldwide, but they also have official mark schemes similar to those we would expect from any IGCSE or A Level papers so that the marking of the examinations can be easily moderated in school. We are confident that by following this course our students will always be following a current and international learning path to reach their goals.
