22nd March 2024
This year we spent the last lesson of the day doing a Mathematics Relay. In fact, many of our students had the opportunity to challenge themselves with the same relays that we used for the BMIS Inter-school Mathematics Challenge that took place on March 5th. However, as a non-selective school that believes in inclusion, we had a range of relays so all our students could feel the enjoyment of competing and achieving in Mathematics.
During the relay each team had 16 questions to solve, they got two marks for answering correctly on the first try and one mark for getting it right the second time. Each time they answered correctly they were given the next question. Thus, it became a race between each group. The challenge in the questions lies in the combination of logic and the numeracy needed.
Below is a question from the relay for you to enjoy (hint: the hour hand moves between the hour hands at a constant rate proportional to the how much of that hour has passed).
