Secondary Kiswahili News

16th September 2022

The Year 7 students have been introduced once again to the Swahili alphabet and pronunciation. The Swahili alphabet has 24 letters and is based on the Latin alphabet. Unlike English letters the Swahili alphabet does not contain the letters Q or X. The other main difference is the inclusion of the letter CH in place of the letter C. In addition, unlike the English language, Swahili only has one sound associated with each letter. The most common arrangement of the syllables is CVCV (Consonant/Vowel/Consonant/Vowel). For example baba, papa. These, among other basic skills, have been reviewed.

We have also looked at the family tree and described some of our family members. All the Swahili classes are now enjoying a TV screen recently installed in the Kiswahili room. All images and videos are as clear as crystal! ! My students and I are excited to use it and are grateful to the SLT and the IT department.
