What an afternoon! Great weather, fantastic play and many goals scored in this highly competitive interhouse fixture.
The first game between Chui and Simba was a very frantic affair. Chui took an early lead after good work from Jasmine. This did little to calm the game with the ball flying from end to end and with the students showing lots of skilled passing and quick movement around the courts, particularly from the centres Lilly May for Simba and Daniel for Chui. The game finished with a flourish, Chui were ahead with Jake scoring but Simba battled past them into the lead with Ernest scoring a brace and Fidel three, only for Chui to equalise with Jasmine in the last play of the game.
The second game was equally close during the first half. Kifaru played very well and scored through Idah completing a fine move and then Lauren. Daniel was instrumental in the Chui centre as Jake and Jasmine found their rhythm, raking up six between them and looking dangerous with every attack. This burst of goals sent Chui into the lead, which became unassailable when Jasmine scored her fifth and sixth goals.
This left Simba needing a big win in the final game to take the competition, or for Kifaru to frustrate them and let Chui win….
Simba started very quickly, scoring a double in the early stages. They then slowed their scoring and Kifaru struck back with a goal from Fidel until the other Fidel Wasike found his groove! He scored a total of eight goals, six in the second half to give the Secondary inter house title to Simba.
The day was not done, A staff select seven played admirably against the a selection from the three houses, two players each from Chui and Kifaru and three from Simba. The House Barbarian team ran out 2-0 winners on this occasion, but an honourable mention must go to Mr Daniels for his stoic defending and the staff captain Ms Onyango.
A fantastic, fun and competitive afternoon. Well done all those involved, and Ms Barasa for preparing the children (and staff!) and umpiring the event.
