The past week the students have been exploring different settlement models. Recently, they have been investigating various zones within these models, enjoying the discovery of what can be found in each area. This hands-on approach has helped students better understand the dynamics of urban planning and the factors that influence where and how people live.
In Year 8, we have taken geography out of the classroom and into the field—literally! This past week, our school grounds served as a field study location, where students applied their skills in a real-world setting. They collected data in various parts of the school, learning to observe, record, and analyse geographical data firsthand. This experience not only enhances their learning but also prepares them for future fieldwork in new and possibly even more challenging environments.
Our Year 9 curriculum has tackled the pressing issue of water scarcity, a topic of significant importance given global environmental concerns. Students have explored the importance of water supply in their homes and have been introduced to various measures to conserve and manage water effectively. This segment has sparked thoughtful discussions on sustainability and the role each individual plays in water conservation.
These activities are designed to provide our students with a practical and insightful look into geographical concepts, preparing them for more complex topics and encouraging them to think critically about the world they inhabit.
Well done to all students for their enthusiasm and commitment to their geographical studies!
