Leveraging AI in English Language Learning

For today’s students, artificial intelligence. This medium holds immense potential to reshape our perspectives on learning and self-expression, its transformative impact should not be underestimated.

AI is transforming the way students learn English by offering personalised and interactive experiences that cater to individual learning styles and needs. Together with social media, it enhances reading and writing skills, transforming the way students learn English by offering personalised and interactive experiences that cater to individual learning styles and needs.

AI can be used as an effective tool in English language classrooms:

  1. Personalised Learning Paths: AI can analyse students' strengths and weaknesses, providing customised learning paths that adapt to their pace and proficiency level. For instance, AI-powered language apps can offer targeted exercises that focus on specific areas like grammar, vocabulary, or comprehension.
  2. Writing Assistants: Tools like AI-based writing assistants help students enhance their writing skills by offering real-time feedback on grammar, punctuation, style, and structure. These tools encourage students to experiment with language, refine their writing, and learn from their mistakes in a supportive environment.
  3. Interactive Chatbots: AI-driven chatbots can engage students in conversations, offering a safe space to practise speaking and listening skills. These bots can simulate real-life scenarios, helping students build confidence in using English in practical contexts.
  4. Gamified Learning: AI integrates gamification into language learning, making it more engaging and enjoyable. Educational games that incorporate storytelling and problem-solving help students develop language skills while keeping them motivated through a sense of achievement and progress.
  5. Speech Recognition Technology: AI-powered speech recognition tools provide instant feedback on pronunciation and fluency, helping students improve their speaking skills. This technology enables learners to practice their speaking in a non-judgmental setting, refining their accents and intonation.
  6. Enhanced Reading Comprehension: AI tools can offer interactive reading experiences, such as highlighting difficult words, providing definitions, and suggesting synonyms. This supports students in developing their reading comprehension skills and expanding their vocabulary.

Integrating AI into English language learning fosters student engagement, enhances skill development, and makes learning more accessible and personalised.

This term we would like to inspire students to embark on their writing journeys and soon they will be crafting their poems for entry in the COBIS Poetry Competition, putting into practice the creative writing skills they have honed. Additionally, they will participate in the Badminton Trophy competition, where their speaking and debating skills will be on full display.

The Language Department invites current students and Braeburn alumni to submit stories about their activities, achievements, and whereabouts for inclusion in our weekly newsletters.
