Safer Internet Day 2024

2nd February 2024

Safer Internet Day is celebrated on 6th February 2024, with thousands of people working together to engage in conversations about how we can all work to make the internet a great and safe place. This year’s Safer Internet Day is based around the theme ‘Inspiring change? Making a difference, managing influence and navigating change online’.

Throughout the week students will have lessons that will cover…

  • Young people’s perspective on new and emerging technology
  • Using the internet to make change for the better
  • The changes young people want to see online
  • The things that can influence and change the way young people think, feel and act online and offline

For all Parents and Carers

Safer Internet Day is a great opportunity to focus on online safety with our children, whatever their age. It is important for parents and carers to talk about these issues in an age-appropriate way, no matter how much time you have.

Parents and carers often have many questions and concerns regarding their child’s online safety

  • Things change so fast online, it’s hard to keep up with what my child is doing
  • My child keeps asking to play a game, or download an app that I don’t know about, what can I do?
  • My child is asking for a new device and I’m not sure they’re ready for one
  • I’m not sure if the content my child is watching is a good influence on them, what can I do?
  • What does an influencer do and how can they affect children’s behaviour?
  • My child is keen to share content and make a change online. How can I help them achieve this safely?

These can be addressed by visiting the Safer Internet Day website https://saferinternet.org.uk/safer-internet-day/safer-internet-day-2024/parents-and-carers

You are also welcome to attend the Safeguarding Workshop (data protection and safer internet) on Tuesday 20th February at 3.00pm at BMIS.
