Primary Activity Showcase

22nd November 2024

At BMIS, there is a diverse range of after school activities available for the students to choose from throughout the week. We actively encourage students to engage in activities aligned with their personal interests, fostering a well-rounded educational experience. These activities are thoughtfully curated to offer physical and artistic outlets beyond the standard curriculum.

Our extracurricular program is designed to nurture individual student development, providing opportunities to explore diverse interests, cultivate peer relationships, unearth hidden talents, acquire new skills, and enhance social competencies. Students not only engage in their chosen pursuits but also collaborate with peers from various classes, fostering teamwork and achieving common objectives together.

Our offerings this term have encompassed a wide spectrum, including sports; football, swimming training, and athletic field and track events, arts, yoga, scouts, golf, french, chess, world scholars, board games, robotics, Daigon E-Sports and Martial Arts, ensuring there's something for every student to explore and excel in.

Football

This term, the KS2 Football Activity Club has been a resounding success, with students eagerly participating every Monday after school. The sessions provided an excellent platform for young football enthusiasts to enhance their skills, develop teamwork, and embrace sportsmanship.

Each session was action-packed with engaging drills, lively games, and thrilling matches that kept everyone motivated and involved. Students dedicated themselves to improving their passing, shooting, and defending techniques while fostering strong camaraderie and mutual respect on the pitch.

A standout feature of the club was the Player of the Match nominations, an initiative where either the teacher or students selected a deserving player, supported by thoughtful reasons for their choice. This encouraged players to recognise individual contributions, value teamwork, and reflect on their own performance constructively.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all participants and supporters for making this term such a success. Here’s to another exciting term of football fun and skill-building ahead!

World Scholar's Cup Club

Our World Scholar's Cup club has been buzzing with energy as we dive into a range of exciting activities designed to sharpen our debating and writing skills. Students have been refining their debating techniques, learning to articulate their ideas confidently, and thinking critically under pressure.

One of our recent focuses has been on creating an effective writing template to help structure our persuasive argument.

To inspire our debates and writing, we have been exploring ‘Superheroes Without Capes’, an outstanding book that introduces us to extraordinary people within living memory who have made a significant impact on our world. These real-life stories have enriched our knowledge and we are learning how to reference them in our debates and writing.

Our club, with students spanning Primary and Secondary, continues to be a place of collaboration, curiosity, and creativity, where every session brings new opportunities to learn and grow. We will continue our club into term 2 where we will go forward to compete in the local round of The World Scholar's Cup challenge.

Scouts

This term, our scouts have been busy learning valuable outdoor skills while building teamwork and resilience. We kicked off with some essential training in compass directions, helping our scouts understand navigation and develop a strong sense of orientation. The children quickly became adept at using compasses and can now confidently identify the main directions—a vital skill for all budding adventurers!

In addition to compass skills, we dove into essential first aid training, where our scouts learned how to manage minor injuries and take action in case of an emergency. Camp procedures also played a big part in our activities, ensuring that all scouts understand safety and cooperation when setting up or managing a campsite.

An important aspect of our sessions was learning about plants—specifically, identifying which ones are poisonous and which are safe to handle. This knowledge will help scouts develop a sense of environmental awareness and caution when exploring nature.

The highlight of the term, however, was fire-making. Our scouts learned the basics of safely building and managing a small campfire under supervision. To top it off, they got to roast marshmallows—an experience that brought plenty of smiles and laughter and was a perfect way to celebrate all they’ve learned this term.

We are incredibly proud of our scouts’ enthusiasm and the skills they've acquired, and we look forward to more adventures and new skills in the upcoming term!

GYMNASTICS

The after-school gymnastics activity on Thursdays has been an enriching experience for students, blending fun, creativity, and physical activity. One of the highlights was learning about balancing shapes, where students experimented with forming different poses individually and in groups. This activity not only strengthened their core and coordination but also sparked their creativity as they imagined and executed unique balancing forms. The emphasis on teamwork during these exercises helped students build trust and communication skills while creating a supportive environment.

In addition to static balancing, students explored dynamic movements, such as travelling and rolling. They went through the basic floor routines, focusing on smooth transitions and maintaining control. The activity also introduced Level 1 gymnastics movements, providing a solid foundation in skills like forward rolls, cartwheels and handstands. These basic movements are fundamental to gymnastics and serve as stepping stones for more advanced techniques. Children not only practised these skills but also integrated them into mini routines, showing their creativity as they designed sequences.
