The first few weeks of the term were focused on building their confidence in the water. Students practiced basic water safety skills, such as floating, treading water, and understanding pool rules.
As the weeks progressed, the students began to tackle the freestyle stroke, also known as front crawl. It's one of the fundamental strokes in swimming, characterised by its rhythmic arm and leg movements and continuous breathing. Learning this stroke marked a significant milestone in their swimming journey.
Initially, some students faced challenges with coordinating their arm and leg movements while maintaining a steady breathing pattern. But through patience, practice, and the guidance they began to make remarkable progress. They started to grasp the technique of the freestyle stroke, focusing on proper body position, arm extension, and the crucial bilateral breathing technique.
Many students found it exhilarating when they finally achieved that smooth, gliding sensation as they propelled themselves through the water with each stroke. Their confidence grew, and the once-nervous swimmers now felt at ease in the pool.
In the water, friendships blossomed, and teamwork became an integral part of their swimming experience. They cheered each other on, offered encouragement during challenging moments, and celebrated every improvement. The friendship among the students added an extra layer of enjoyment to their swimming lessons.
With variety of equipment available, this is what the children had to say:
"The kickboards and floaties are awesome. They make it easier for me to practice my strokes and stay afloat. Clara
"These new swim fins are fantastic! They make me feel like a real mermaid or dolphin in the water. “Isabella
"The updated pool mats are great for floating and playing games. I can't wait to use them in our next swim class." Alenka
"These new swim fins are a bit hard to get used to, but I can tell they're going to help me improve my swimming." Chris
Overall, the students' milestone into swimming and their mastery of the freestyle stroke has been a remarkable journey of growth and accomplishment. With each passing lesson, they have become more skilled and confident swimmers, proving that with dedication and the right guidance, anyone can become a proficient swimmer. The term is far from over, but the progress they have made so far is a testament to their hard work and determination.
