Primary Interhouse Games

7th July 2022

This term climaxed with much-anticipated and very well played inter house Netball and Rugby matches. The three age groups, U11 (Years five and six) U9 (Years three and four) and U7 (Years one and two) each played both games enthusiastically in their houses.

The U7 games were played in great spirit and enthusiasm. They have been working on their catching and throwing skills along with their positioning in space and running with the ball. The first game was dominated by Otto's strong running; he scored four times in a very fine display, finding good spaces and running quickly to avoid being tagged. Eline also scored for Kifaru, with Chui's star performer, Nial scoring all of their points.

Kifaru then played out a drawn game with Simba, Otto again scoring, along with Moustafa for Kifaru, and Clemmie and Alexander the Simba scorers. Clemmie showed some excellent running and carrying of the ball, as well as being very mobile in defence.

In the final game, Simba’s star Clemmie managed a hat trick of tries with Niall again scoring for Chui.

The U7 netball games were equally well played, with strong performances again form Otto and Clemmie, but with many more scorers. Niall and Veer scored as Chui took on Kifaru, with Otto scoring for them. Then Simba had Clemmie score as Otto made some excellent passes for Kifaru and they scored through Etienne and Lewis. Finally Simba scored through Alex and Clemmie while Chui came very close but didn't manage to score. Lots of very close and competitive games, with one win for each team!

The U9 games were also very competitive. Both netball and rugby saw some excellent play. The children have been learning to play with some tackling in rugby and have been very receptive and very enthusiastic! Jayden, Sean M, Nuriyah and Vyan all showed determination and skill when moving with the ball and making tackles alike. Fatema, Afonso and Lloyd's enthusiasm were excellent and the groups general play was very pleasing. In netball, their movement and passing has been very good, with Ayden and Alvin being star shooters and Jayden defending well and Vyan and Fatema making chances for others.

The rugby games saw a frantic start with a nine try thriller, Chui scoring through Chris, Alexander and two from Ayden and Athur running in four and Afonso a fifth for Kifaru. In another high scoring game, Simba had Rens scoring one and Sean three as Chui replied with two from Nuriyah and one from Ayden. The final game saw Sean and Afonso scoring for Simba and Kifaru in another high octane game!

During the netball matches we were treated to some super close matches, all won by a single score. Chui had the leading scorer, Ayden, make the winning point in their game against Kifaru, while Kifaru's scorer Alvin was the difference between them and Simba, and again Aiden scored in the final game giving Chui the win.

U9 Netball winners - Chui

Finally the U11 fixtures! These were very keenly played, each house really putting their all into each performance. We were very pleased with everybody's application and clear enthusiasm. During the netball matches we saw great teamwork and excellent movement. The passing was very quick and the houses generally played very well. During the rugby matches we saw some excellent play from each house, Aiden and Shay making great breaks and passes for Chui and Simba, Matis and Tatyana scoring for Kifaru as Denis rallied his Simba troops with some excellent leadership and good quality passing and Sienna running strongly into good opposition spaces. In the second game, the equally matched Simba and Chui teams battled to a very good draw. It was an excellent end-to-end game with Kevin and Shay shining for Simba and Aiden and Arjan making very exciting runs for Chui. In this game, a very good series of passes led to Alba scoring a fine try for Chui, then Kevin replying for the Simba team. There were several close calls, including one last ditched tackle on Denis preventing a try and Shay being tagged right on the line and the Chui defence holding firm! An amazing game with ‘great fluency’ according to Ms Russell. The game ended breathlessly all square!

Finally, Chui came up against Kifaru. In another superb game, Kifaru came close on several occasions, with Matis particularly working well in the midfield again with Tatyana. Chui however, were still on a high from their previous match and were rampant when they had the ball, Kevin and Shay making rapid runs into good areas of the pitch and causing problems for the defence before scoring a try each. Another breathless encounter, well played all!
