Last week, on a beautiful morning, we held the primary interhouse football event. The children were split into two groups: Years 1,2 &3 and Years 4, 5 & 6. Each house played two games, with everyone participating in some capacity. This meant that the games were played with evenly matched teams.
The younger group started proceedings with enthusiasm and vigour! The children showed great passion for their houses, cheering each other on and excitedly encouraging friends in other houses. We saw goals from Garang in Simba and Cleah in Kifaru as the games were super close. Simba’s defence with Mattie and attack with Garang running hard and taking several shots, won through in the end, with Kifaru pushing them close with strong performances from Amina defensively and Natasha in goal and Clara showing great skills. Cleah shone for Chui, at both ends, scoring one and keeping out several of David's shots and Ishaan worked hard to keep the ball moving forwards during their games.
These games finished with Simba winning, Kifaru second and Chui third.
The older group arrived with an equally large amount of enthusiasm. The games were equally close, with goals from Vyan, Ayden, Adam and Fatema. In these games Simba defended well but Sean made several attempts at goal, with Chris performing very well in goal to prevent him. Some excellent passing from the Chui team almost led to a goal. Vyan performed very well, tricking and dribbling past defenders, Daisy getting in on the act with some slick passing with Ayden and again Vyan. Etienne performed very well all over the pitch, making many tackles and coming very close to scoring on several occasions. More Kifaru players shone, with Otto defending very well and Etienne again working well with Fatema in attack, leading to a goal. For Simba, Lloyd stepped up and defended valiantly.
These games ended with Chui winning, Kifaru second and Simba in third.
Well done to all those involved; it was a fun event to organise and referee and we are very pleased with the children’s application and attitude towards the games. They were fun and competitive, and everyone was involved. The spirit, kindness and sportsmanship shown by all was exemplary. With three good cheers given by each team after every game!
