As the Olympic Torch reached Marseille on Wednesday, the Games are becoming more present in our minds. Cultural awareness and learning about a country’s history, systems and customs is an integral part of learning a language.
Year 8 students revised the body parts and how to say that they are unwell this week and in doing so discovered a famous French athlete who will be part of the Olympic Torch relay team, taking the flame from Brest in Bretagne to La Guadeloupe in the Carribeans. Marie-Jose Perec won the 400m in the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona and in 1996, she won both the 200m and the 400m.
Year 7 students are working on writing using the past tense focusing on describing a past weekend. They also reviewed the “Wh question words” in French to improve their ability to answer questions accurately. Revision of clothes and physical description has started in order to be ready for the end of year examinations after half-term.
In Year 9, after having sat their final Checkpoint examinations in the first week, students are now revising using reflexive verbs to describe their routine. In doing so, they also revisit the school topic and will be expected to extend their learning to be able to use the three tenses (past, present and future) in that context. In addition, they are experimenting with the use of Artificial Intelligence to widen their vocabulary and sentence structures.
