One of the tasks that the learning support department undertakes at BMIS is in-class support. The whole idea is to ensure that our classrooms are inclusive.
In an inclusive classroom, the class teachers and inclusion/learning support teachers work together to meet the needs of students.
This ensures that all the students get the help they need but also creates an opportunity for all the teachers to work exclusively with children in need of learning support.
All students learn differently. This is a principle of inclusive education. In an inclusive classroom, teachers weave in specially designed instruction and support that can help students make progress. These strategies are helpful for all students.
Another key is to break students into small groups. When teachers use small groups, they can tailor their teaching to the way each student learns best. This is known as differentiated instruction.
Inclusive classrooms are filled with diverse learners, each of whom has strengths and challenges. Inclusion gives students a way to talk about how everyone learns in their own way. This can go a long way in helping students know that difference is just a normal part of life. It can also help students build and maintain friendships.
BMIS provides an excellent environment for every learner to thrive.
