This term in Year 10 PSHCE, we are focusing on preparing students for their upcoming work experience. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to step into the professional world, apply their skills in real-life settings, and gain valuable insights into different career paths.
Work experience will take place over one week, during which students will be expected to act as regular employees, adhering to workplace expectations, schedules, and responsibilities. This immersive experience will help them develop essential skills and understand workplace culture firsthand.
Students have already identified potential workplaces and are currently working on their application letters. This process helps them refine their writing skills, professionalism, and ability to present themselves effectively. We encourage students to craft thoughtful and well-structured applications that highlight their strengths and enthusiasm.
Work experience provides students with the opportunity to develop essential workplace skills such as communication, time management, teamwork, problem-solving, professionalism, and confidence. By engaging with colleagues and supervisors, managing tasks efficiently, and adapting to professional etiquette, students gain valuable real-world experience that enhances their personal and career development.
This experience is crucial in preparing students for their future careers, offering them insight into different industries while helping them develop transferable skills for employment and education. Work experience also builds confidence and independence, making students more competitive for university applications and future job opportunities.
Parents and guardians play a vital role in ensuring a successful work experience by encouraging their child to take the application process seriously, discussing workplace expectations, and preparing them for professional behaviour. We are excited to see our students embark on this journey and encourage any questions or support needed for their preparation.

During this half-term, Year 11 students have been taking part in PSHCE lessons focused on communication in different types of relationships. These lessons have helped students understand the key values and emotions involved in communicating with various people, including their friends, teachers, family members, strangers, and others they interact with daily.
As part of their learning, students have explored how to express their needs and wants clearly and confidently while being respectful towards others. They have also practised assertive communication, which helps them stand up for themselves without being aggressive or rude.
Moving forward, the students will learn about dealing with unwanted attention, including situations where someone may be making them feel uncomfortable, both in person and online. They will also discuss the topic of stalking and ways to stay safe in such situations.
These lessons have been very interactive, with students sharing their thoughts, experiences, and ideas with one another. By working together, they have gained a deeper understanding of the importance of good communication in building positive and respectful relationships with other people.
