This second half of term, in PSHCE, Year 7 have studied Aspirations and Developing Skills. They looked at and shared their talents and strengths, their achievements and set goals for themselves. Take a look at these examples shared below, thanks to Aiden, Pamela and Sienna.
They considered what skills are useful in life and require development, such skills as teamwork, critical thinking, communication and leadership skills. We also developed two very important skills that all students and life-long learners need – Research and Presentation Skills.

During the second half of the term, our PSHCE curriculum has comprehensively covered essential topics fostering holistic development. The exploration of 'Attitudes to Mental Health' has been instrumental in breaking down stigmas, promoting empathy, and nurturing a supportive environment. Students engaged in open dialogues, contributing to a destigmatized view of mental health concerns.
The segment on 'Promoting Emotional Wellbeing' equipped students with tools to manage stress, anxiety, and emotional challenges. Practical exercises, including mindfulness practices, empowered students to enhance their emotional resilience.
'Digital Resilience' sessions delved into the complexities of the digital landscape, emphasising responsible online behaviour, cyberbullying awareness, and strategies for managing screen time. Students developed a heightened awareness of their digital footprint and the importance of maintaining a healthy balance in the digital realm.
Exploring 'Unhealthy Coping Strategies' provided insights into the risks associated with negative habits. The discussions encouraged students to recognise such behaviours and understand the importance of seeking healthier alternatives.
Conversely, the segment on 'Healthy Coping Strategies' offered a toolkit of positive approaches to deal with stress and challenges. Practical exercises, role-playing scenarios, and discussions empowered students to build resilience and develop healthier coping mechanisms.
Lastly, the topics of 'Change, Loss, and Grief' fostered understanding and empathy. Through case studies and personal reflections, students explored the impact of change and loss, developing the skills to navigate these inevitable aspects of life.
Overall, this term's PSHCE lessons have not only provided valuable knowledge but have also equipped students with practical skills, promoting a positive and supportive school community. The focus on mental health, emotional wellbeing, digital resilience, and coping strategies underscores our commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals.

In the goal-setting topic, Year 9 students have delved into the art of SMART goal setting, sharpening their skills in coming up with objectives that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Moreover, the students were guided in identifying their personal values and interests, emphasising the crucial connection between these personal factors and the successful attainment of goals. The importance of setting both realistic and challenging goals has been a focal point, encouraging our students to find a delicate balance that fosters personal growth. Additionally, the lessons have equipped them with the tools to create comprehensive action plans, ensuring a clear roadmap to success. The development of resilience has been woven into these lessons, teaching students to navigate setbacks with a positive mindset. Lastly, our students have learned the significance of monitoring goal progress, fostering a sense of accountability and adaptability in their pursuit of personal and academic achievements. I am confident that these valuable life skills will empower our Year 9 students as they navigate the exciting journey ahead.
