KS2 News - Year 3

27th January 2023

The Year 3s have been giving their green fingers a go in science and are thoroughly enjoying their outdoor gardening experience, learning all about the different things’ plants need to grow and survive!

The children used the clay pots they painted in Art class to plant sunflower seeds inside and have been tending to them for a few minutes each day, watering the soil every morning, hoping, and watching with anticipation. Screams of joy at the sight of the first shoots popping out of the soil filled the air and there has been a buzz of excitement centred around some Maths lessons with the children measuring the heights of their growing plants and learning to keep record.

Alongside this, the children are also undertaking the inverse in another investigative science experiment, for which they have selected and removed one variable of their choice, predicted what may happen to the plant as a result of taking it away and are currently in the observation and recording phases of their experiments.

In English the children have been getting more acquainted with newspaper articles as part of their Recounts topic. Using the various features they have learned, the young journalists are currently underway writing about Hansel and Gretel’s ordeal at the wicked witch’s gingerbread house in the woods, making sure to use the 5Ws in their writing and thinking of catchy headlines to use to captivate their readers.

Making every moment count, there is so much more excitement on-going in year 3, from starting production rehearsals, mastering the song lyrics and tunes in Music, to hosting the next class assembly on Friday…. we look forward to sharing more with you.
