Working scientifically and a visit to Kericho Gold Tea Factory

2nd July 2022

Our Year 3 students have been very active palaeontologists in our ‘thinking scientifically’ themed lesson recently when they had the chance to extract dinosaur fossils preserved in ice from billions of years ago.

Equipped with their enthusiasm, curiosity, field kits and protective attire, the children used their newly acquired scientific skills to make predictions, test their ideas, make observations, ask questions, document their data and research more about what they found.

To share their learning, they communicated their discoveries to the rest of their peers and communicated lots of interesting information about their fossil’s size and weight they had measured and explained the effect of salt and hot water on ice. The year 3’s had such an enlightening time learning practically and, through inquiry. They are looking forward to their next scientific experiment to explore density, buoyancy, and surface tension.

The Year 3’s also had the wonderful opportunity to visit the Kericho Gold Tea Factory. Dressed in mini white coats, hair nets and galoshes, they toured the different areas of the factory floor where they learned about the storage, processing and packing of tea. They enjoyed guessing the different tea flavoured aromas circulating the air and got the opportunity to be tea connoisseurs for the day! Giggling and laughing, they tasted the various flavours of tea and graded their preferences, and then left with overfilled goody bags of tea to enjoy with their families.
