Happy New Year and welcome back to a new term in Key Stage 2. The fizz and buzz of excited chatter and enthusiastic questions are already filling the school as the children embark on new learning adventures in their classrooms, which are full of wonderful, fresh displays for our new topics.
This term is an exciting one for Years 4, 5 and 6 as they begin preparations for their production of ‘Ye-Ha!’. Many of the children already have their roles and are busy learning their lines and are already engaged in rehearsals with the creative arts team.
‘The Vikings’ is the topic that our Year 3 children are preparing to conquer; their minds will grow alongside their ‘Plants’ topic for science. In Year 4, the children will be sparking their neuron pathways with their ‘Electricity’ topic and getting wrapped up in the ‘Ancient Egyptians’. Year 5 are broadening their horizons with their ‘People in Kenya’ topic, and getting heavy with ‘Forces’ in science. In Year 6, we are getting organised, studying the Linnaean classification of living things in our science lessons; our history topic is World War Two and we have already started looking at some of the key players, events and dates in this terrible period of human history. The curriculum overviews will tell you more about the exciting learning opportunities coming their way this term.
With children in full swing with exciting after-school activities, class assembly preparations, trips and projects, among so many other events, it is going to be another whirlwind of a term- we can’t wait! Don’t forget to check the calendar for important dates.
We hope you enjoy talking to your children about their learning- what can they teach you today?!
