Inter-Braeburn Swimming Gala

27th September 2024

24 pupils, Miss Barasa, Mr Marongo and Mrs Welch set off to Nairobi early on Friday morning. The train ride was entertaining, with Daisy and Willa offering up a great activity in the way of necklace and bracelet making...hours of entertainment!!

After the long journey, we arrived at BGE and settled into the rooms. A short training swim to 'swim the train legs out' helped everyone get rid of some built up energy and get used to the cool air! Before dinner we had a play on the field and then ate a hearty dinner. The food was tasty, and we followed up with some free time in the dorms before lights out.

After a good night's sleep, and another yummy meal, we hopped on the bus and made our way to Braeside Lavington, where we dropped off the U9 and U11 teams. The U13 and Over 14's carried onto BGR early enough to have a good warm up in the respective pools.

Time for the races! Each and every child in the team fought hard in all their races, showing a real passion to participate for BMIS School. Everyone enjoyed themselves, worked hard, and were positive. Having had a chat before the team arrived at the event, Mrs Welch mentioned the following:

All we ask of you are 3 things:

  1. Try your hardest
  2. Enjoy yourself
  3. 'No neg waves' (speak positive words only, to yourself and others)

If you maintain these 3 key points, as teachers, we can only be proud of what you achieve.

Everyone can certainly be proud of themselves for what they achieved last weekend. The final results put BMIS in a very respectable 5th place out of the 9 Braeburn Schools that competed, and 6 children won a total of 8 medals!

The BBQ went down well with all pupils, and the last few hours playing on the field at BGR were well earned. A long journey home, with most pupils fast asleep as parents collected them, showed how much effort everyone put into the competition.

Congratulations to all participants. We hope to see you, and others who weren't able to attend, at future training sessions, so we can build upon the success and positivity of Saturday.

Let's work towards being the best BMIS swim team we can this season by training hard, enjoying ourselves, whilst showing a positive outlook in all we do!
