MAJIRA YA MWAKA: SEASONS OF THE YEAR

The Year 9 students recently explored the topic about weather and the different seasons. We borrowed quite a lot of geographical content and acquired new knowledge and facts. We talked about how different countries all over the world experience seasons at different times of the year depending on the earth's spin axis. The seasons are as a result of how the earth is tilted relative to its orbit around the sun. That's how seasons in the Southern Hemisphere are opposite to those in the Northern Hemisphere. We used the world globe model as a reference to locate these regions. Finally we discussed the advantages and disadvantages of different weather conditions and how they affect our travel arrangements, dress code and even hobbies.

Vocabulary:

Majira ya machipuko/ masika - season of sprouting (spring)

Msimu wa joto/kiangazi - season of heat (summer)

Majira ya mapukutiko/vuli - season of shedding leaves (fall)

Msimu wa baridi/ kipupwe - cold season (winter)
