HABARI ZA KISWAHILI - Primary

15th March 2022

The Year 4 students have worked hard this term, especially with spoken Swahili. In the initial weeks of the term, they learned how to introduce themselves with their classmates as the audience. They stated where they live, school, their hobbies and the activities they engage in over the weekends. Later, they ventured into shopping! They learnt vocabulary like pesa, dola, shillingi, chenji, ni pesa ngapi?, bei, bidhaa, tafadhali punguza bei, etc. They have been practising starting and sustaining a conversation at different places that we go shopping as well as asking for discounts. Well done, Year 4s.

Sample conversation at a boutique:

Mnunuzi: Habari ya leo?

Muuzaji: Nzuri, na yako je?

Mnunuzi:Njema.

Muuzaji: Nikusaidie vipi leo?

Mnunuzi: Ningependa kununua viatu, kofia na tai.

Muuzaji: Aya, hizi hapa. Je, hizi rangi ni za kupendeza?

Mnunuzi: Ndiyo, asante. Je, ni jumla ya pesa ngapi?

Muuzaji: Ni jumla ya shilingi elfu mbili mia moja na hamsini.

Mnunuzi: Ah! Ni ghali sana! Tafadhali punguza bei.

Muuzaji: Sawa basi. Lipa elfu mbili tu!
