Story Dough

10th May 2024

Story Dough is a simple yet powerful way to add the skills of language, fine motor, mark making and imagination. Story dough can be done around a set story book or tale or make it completely open-ended and invent your own story.

Stories and story time helps children to bond with children whilst nurturing their literacy and language skills. The children begin to hear new sounds, words, and language, helping them develop literacy skills.

FS1 children listened to the story, ‘Super worm’. The children were able to retell the story and describe the superworm using various words. We then had a story dough session. Story Dough is all about using playdough to create and retell stories. It helps children be creative and develop vocabulary. Story Dough is about connection, language, imagination, wonder, physicality, rhyme, movement and creativity.

The children then used play dough to retell the story. They made superworm: the skipping rope, the swing, the fairground ride, the train and the hat.
