Year 7: Exploring the Roman Empire

This term, our Year 7 students are diving into the fascinating world of the Roman Empire. They are learning about the rise and expansion of Rome, its powerful leaders, and the incredible engineering feats that still amaze us today. Through interactive lessons and engaging activities, students are discovering how the Romans influenced modern society in areas such as law, architecture, and language.

Year 8: Understanding the Transatlantic Trade

Year 8 students are embarking on a critical exploration of the Transatlantic Trade. They are examining the complex and often tragic history of the trade routes that connected Europe, Africa, and the Americas. By analysing primary sources and participating in discussions, students are gaining a deeper understanding of the economic, social, and human impacts of this period. This study not only highlights the resilience of those who suffered but also the lasting effects on contemporary society.

Year 9: Delving into the First World War

Our Year 9 students are engaged in an in-depth study of the First World War. They are exploring the causes, major battles, and the profound consequences of this global conflict. Through multimedia presentations, primary source analysis, and group projects, students are connecting with the human experiences behind the historical events. This comprehensive approach helps them appreciate the complexities of the war and its enduring legacy.

Students found the lessons particularly interesting and captivating, especially through the videos they watched. These visual aids brought the historical events to life, making the learning experience more immersive and engaging.

Year 10: Analysing the Peace Talks of 1919 and the League of Nations

Year 10 students are focusing on the aftermath of the First World War, particularly the peace talks of 1919 and the performance of the League of Nations in the 1920s and 1930s. They are investigating the aims and outcomes of the Treaty of Versailles and evaluating the successes and failures of the League of Nations. This study provides valuable insights into the challenges of maintaining peace and the lessons learned from early 20th-century diplomacy.

Year 11: Unravelling the Cold War

Our Year 11 students are delving into the intricate history of the Cold War. They are examining the ideological, political, and military tensions between the USA and the USSR from 1945 to 1991. Through detailed case studies, including the Berlin Crisis and the Cuban Missile Crisis, students are gaining a nuanced understanding of this pivotal period. This exploration helps them grasp the global impact of the Cold War and its influence on contemporary international relations.

We are incredibly proud of our students’ enthusiasm and dedication to their historical studies. Their engagement with these diverse topics exemplifies the power of history education to inspire and inform. We look forward to seeing their continued growth and achievements in the coming terms.
