Week Two has come to an end. How are you all doing? Are you taking care of yourself?
What is Self-Care?
Self-Care is the practice of taking an active role in protecting your own well-being and happiness, most particularly during stressful periods.
It does not mean, contrary to popular belief, treating yourself to self-indulgent activities.
Rather, Self-Care is doing what you know is good for you, even if you don’t want to do it: step away from work/books; go for a jog; eat healthy; go to bed earlier or go take a bath for some “you time.”
Here are some ideas on how you can practise self-care:
PhysicalSelf-Care | Social Self-Care | Emotional Self-Care | Professional Self-Care |
Regular medical care Eating healthy Exercise Get enough sleep Take vacations Take time off Massages Acupuncture Bubble Baths Take a walk Get “me” time Garden Spend time in nature |
Foster friendships Spend time with family Find a hobby and connect with those with similar hobbies Practice asking and receiving help Turn off cell phone Volunteer Join a book club Join a class, eg. yoga, dance, etc. |
Practice self-compassion Self-reflection Meditate Laugh Cry Play Buy yourself a present Do things to relax Open up to a trusted friend Therapy Journal Yoga Meditate |
Take time for lunch Set boundaries Leave work at work Do not work during your time off Get support of colleagues Take mental health days Take discretionary days Learn to say “No” Plan your next career move Make a vision board Plan short term and long term goals |
Have a fantastic weekend and make an effort to take care of yourself everyday.
