7th July 2023
This term has been a very wet one! The term is always a busy, condensed affair and this year was no exception. We have had examinations across secondary, including IGCSEs, several events across the schools and our usual lessons. We have worked hard on our netball and rugby skills, enjoying the weather during the rugby sessions and enjoying the new courts during the netball lessons! We also managed to use the cross-country course on a few occasions before the weather really took hold! The KS4 students have worked well, showing maturity and understanding for each other during lessons. They have supported each other well and helped themselves to grow as sportspeople. KS3 have worked hard on their skills, sometimes showing a great appetite for success! We attended a football tournament this term, competing well with a younger, inexperienced team.
The inter house events on Thursday 6th July were approached with a positive and sporting attitude. The houses battled it out and provided some excellent action in their games.
First up the rugby matches were played, the weather held out and on a beautiful morning Kifaru and Chui took to the field to start proceedings. Kifaru raced off to an early lead with Alex dominating play. He scored and went close again before Aden scored. Imani managed another, restoring a lead before Kevin cunningly broke away with the ball from the restart to score, Alex then scored the winner, fittingly. A very close opening fixture! In the second game Simba overcame Chui having come from behind. Poul scored an opener for Chui only for Ciara and then Ernest to score for the Simba team. In the final game Kifaru again raced into the lead, despite Ernest’s defending, Alex sped in to score twice. Imani again scored, in a mirror of the first game and Ernest managed two in reply for a very well organised Simba team. They went very close to an equaliser, but it finished three tries to two in favour of Kifaru.

We then moved straight to the netball courts, with all the teams ready and keen, Chui started against Kifaru. This game was dominated by Fidel and Alex’s fast breaks and passing and Tung’a’s hard defending. Kifaru came out six goals to one winners, with Hendrika scoring one and Alex an impressive five. Poul scored a consolation for Chui, and defended stoutly in a very tough game, with Kifaru in imperious form. The second game put Kifaru up against Simba, again Alex and Fidel played very well, and Hendrika, this time scoring twice and Alex three times in a five goals to one win. Ciarra scored the consolation for the Simba team who had worked really hard. The final game was very well fought. Muhamed scored the opener and then the game was very even until two minutes from time when Ernest scored an equaliser, Jasmin then scored for Chui to retake the lead only for another Ernest special to draw the game back to two all. This is how it finished despite some very close shots in the dying seconds.

Well done to all of the students for playing their part in these games.
I have to also congratulate John and the groundsmen on making sure the fields were in such good condition, Nurse Roda for her support at multiple events along with Eddie and the kitchen staff for their help with refreshments. I also have to thank all of the teaching colleagues for their support when we are running events, travelling to fixtures or if they are helping with after-school clubs or taking on roles in sports days, swimming galas or other events and of course the management for giving us the time to do these things!
This term I have to send a personal thank you to Ms Barasa who held the fort fantastically while I was on paternity leave.Thank you!
We go forwards looking at next term’s sports, Athletics, Football and Cricket and the multiple events that will accompany them, including the inter Braeburn event in September, the Kasarani Athletics event, local football matches and of course next term’s inter house events.
