30th June 2022
Well done to Ana and Arnav Leon in Year 8 and 10 respectively for their success in Taekwondo. They have been practising and competing discreetly and have now reached a stage where they will be travelling outside the country for an East African competition.
We celebrate your success, determination and dedication.
Congratulations to you both!
Thank you to Ana and Arnav’s mother who wrote to us to share more information:
The Kenya Sofco Junior Taekwondo Championship, 2022 was held in Nairobi on June 25, 2022. Arnav (Year 10) and Ana (Year 8) represented BMIS taking the school to rank 5 (in Kyorugy - sparring ranking) from amongst 17 schools that participated with a minimum of 5 members in a team.
The championship had a total of 190 participants, boys and girls aged 4-14 years. Ana and Arnav won a gold each in their respective kyorugy competition. Their Poomsae (form) was adjudged to be the best as well. This qualifies them for the next round to be held in Rwanda (East Africa Junior Taekwondo Championship) by July last week, leading to the world junior taekwondo championship to be held in Korea later.
Students’ voice:
I went to a Taekwondo competition on the 25 June. It was in Nairobi and it was a competition against other schools. My brother and I represented Braeburn and won the gold medals in sparring (Kyorugi). There were 190 participants in the competition. Braeburn came in the top 5 with just two representatives while other schools had up to fifteen representatives. We will compete in Rwanda on the 30-31 of July again. I had a great time in the competition and I was overjoyed when I got gold because I had played many matches and it was very tiring.
