Black History Month Assembly

27th October 2023

October is designated as Black History Month.

In recognition of this, the Year 11 students gave an excellent presentation on black history in our special assembly on Friday.

In fact BMIS has already made a significant contribution to the teaching and learning of black history during our Respect Day in Week 3.

Year 8 students are studying the African Peoples of the Americas in Term 1. This week we have discussed the origins and outbreak of the American Civil War which culminated in the abolition of slavery in 1865.

Black History Month is a celebration, but it is also a recognition of the fact that more needs to be done to acknowledge the contributions of black people in Africa and around the world.
