Badminton Trophy Competition

29th September 2023

A group of our students participated in the Badminton Trophy competition hosted by our sister school Braeburn Garden Estate. This is an annual Speech and Drama event in which school teams work collaboratively to devise a performance in a set amount of time.

Our team consisted of five Under 11 students from Year 6 ( Fatema , Aaryan, Ayden, Vyan, Sean) and five U13s from Years 7 and 8 (Sienna, Ivana, Nicole, Matis and Denis). We had a mixed group of excited students setting off from Mombasa to take part in a challenge they were looking forward to after being selected to represent the school.

On the day of the competition the theme , ‘Unique ’, was selected randomly from a sealed envelope and all participating teams had 15 minutes, initially with their teachers, to come up with ideas, then they were allowed an hour on their own to create a play based on the theme. They would later perform the play for 4-7 minutes. All this was to be done by the students without help from their teachers and like all the others, our team put their best foot forward.

At the end of the one-hour preparation time, they were allowed to spend another fifteen minutes with their teachers to help polish and refine their performance; all this was without props or change of costume as marks would be deducted if these were used. Finally, they got to perform at the Braeburn Theatre in front of an audience and the judges.

It was an exciting experience watching them put on such a great show. The creativity was fantastic and the talented team was amazing too. We are very proud of all the students for their courage and confidence. Well done to you all!

We enjoyed the experience and had a wonderful time on the trip.

I would like to thank all the students who participated in this exciting competition.

Well done Team Braeburn Mombasa!
