Jason deCaires Taylor is a British sculptor and creator best known for installing site-specific underwater sculptures which develop into artificial coral reefs integrating his skills as a sculptor, marine conservationist, underwater photographer and scuba diving instructor.
His most ambitious project to date is the creation of the world's largest underwater sculpture museum, the Cancún Underwater Museum, situated off the coast between Cancún and Isla Mujeres, Mexico. He has transformed statuesque portraits of local communities into artificial reefs that directly support the ocean life upon which those communities depend.
Taylor hopes to create dynamic sculptural installations on the ocean floor to promote ocean conservation and address the perils of climate change.
He urges us to avert a legacy of ocean pollution and destructive climate change, and to embrace our collective responsibility to future generations. He leads by example, introducing artificial reefs into distressed marine environments and restoring vitality to our oceans one sunken treasure at a time.
