15th November 2021
On Thursday we held our armistice assembly.
This year the assembly was presented by Year 9, who are studying the First World War this term.
Lilly May and Poul spoke about the original Armistice Day in November 1918.
Imani and Noah gave us some information about the nature of the First World War from 1914 – 1918.
Max, Idah and Rehan spoke about the involvement of Kenyans and East Africans in the First and Second World Wars.
We also maintained our tradition of having a number of students reciting some of the most popular war poems.
Year 7 performed In Flanders Fields by John McCrae
Ana, Year 8, performed Anthem for Doomed Youth by Wilfred Owen
Year 9 recited Glory of Women by Siegfried Sassoon
At 11 o’clock we marked the end of the First World War and Remembered those who have given their lives in wars since 1918 with one minute’s silence.
I am grateful to everyone who has joined in the occasion and bought a poppy to commemorate the wars. As always, all of the money raised will go to Kenyan veterans and their families.
