Prep School

Based on the English National Curriculum, our Prep School syllabus offers an ambitious and broad learning experience, balancing core and foundation subjects. Children spend around two-thirds of their time with trained Prep specialist teachers, who provide consistency and a strong foundation across English, Mathematics, and other key areas.

This is complemented by subject-specific specialist teaching in Physical Education, Music, and the Creative Arts. We encourage children to take ownership of their learning, developing confidence, independence, and curiosity as they progress. Every learning opportunity, whether in the classroom, outdoors, or through wider school life, is maximised to inspire, challenge, and nurture each child to thrive academically and personally.

We offer a range of top quality resources to support learning, including: Information Communication Technology (ICT) suites, specialist Science laboratories, a bio-diverse wetland area for Science studies, a Class Music and Orchestra room with separate practice rooms, an Art studio, extensive playing fields, cricket fields and cricket nets, and a 25-metre swimming pool.

Learners Enjoying Success

We prioritise tracking each child’s attainment and progress throughout Prep. Teachers use a combination of ongoing observations and regular teacher assessments to build a detailed picture of each child’s development.

This is supported by CAT4 assessments (Cognitive Ability Tests) which provide valuable insights into a child’s learning potential, and a range of standardised assessments that allow us to benchmark progress against international expectations. By bringing these measures together, we can identify individual strengths, highlight areas for support, and ensure that every child is on a pathway to achieve their best.

Our Approach

Our teaching approach is rooted in the British National Curriculum, designed to build knowledge and skills progressively in line with age-related expectations. In the lower years of Prep, learning is practical and hands-on, allowing children to explore, experiment, and engage their curiosity. As they move into the upper years, this naturally develops into greater independence, with a strong focus on study skills, critical thinking, and preparation for the next stage of education.

Children learn independently, in small groups, and as a whole class, with teachers tailoring their methods to suit the subject and the learners’ needs. Learning extends beyond sitting at a desk. Our classrooms and wider environment provide opportunities for active, creative, and collaborative learning that helps every child thrive.
