Introduction

Our Early Years Foundation Stage caters for children from 2 to 5 years of age (Pre-crèche to FS2) and provides our young learners with a solid foundation for good future progress throughout school and life.

Curriculum

The Early Years Curriculum at BMIS is firmly rooted in The Early Years Foundation Stage statutory framework, produced by the Department for Education in England. This comprehensive framework encompasses seven key areas of learning, including personal, social, and emotional development; physical development; communication and language; literacy; mathematics; understanding the world; and expressive arts.

We believe in the power of play-based learning and our approach ensures that children have access to a wide range of enriching experiences both indoors and outdoors. With our free-flow access to the different classrooms and our beautiful garden, children have the freedom to explore various activities throughout the day. Inside they can immerse themselves in imaginative play in the roleplay area, express themselves through art, mark-making, and construction play. While outside the children can unleash their creativity and energy as they whip up culinary delights in the mud kitchen and sandpit or look after our vegetable garden.

We encourage our Early Years children to foster a love for reading. This is accomplished with weekly library sessions, free access to a reading room as well as daily story time sessions. Beyond nurturing a passion for reading we prioritise learning how to read and use Twinkl Phonics, an approved systematic phonics programme.

Beyond covering the seven areas of learning of the EYFS we offer our children opportunities to develop their interest in Yoga and Karate as extra-curricular activities.
